Message on the International Day of Older Persons.

Fellow Ugandans,

Today, we join hands with people around the world to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Older persons. This is an accassion to value the contributions of our senior citizens and say thank you, well done for their many sacrifices and contributions.

Unfortunately, this special day finds when the world is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic which has disproportionately impacted on the wellbeing of our senior citizens. It’s therefore true that our theme today, “Pandemics: Do They Change How We Address Age and Ageing?” has come in handy. It tasks us to renew our commitment to expand opportunities for older persons and priotise their access to health, pensions and social protection.

Let us undertake to work with them and tap into their enormous brainpower, experience and expertise in the building of stronger communities.

I wish you a blessed International Day of Older Persons. Thank you.

Winnie Kiiza, MP
Parliament of Uganda.
